Kids' Dirndl Size Chart — Body Measurements

All measurements are body measurements in centimetres. This chart applies to our complete kids' Trachten range — Kinderdirndl (children's dirndls), kids' Trachten blouses, and matching apron sets. German children's sizing is based on body height in centimetres (e.g. size 110 = a child 110 cm tall). If your child is between two sizes, read the kids' fit note below before ordering.

Kids' Trachten fit note: Children grow quickly. If your child is between two sizes, order the larger size — the Mieder (bodice) lacing can be tightened for the immediate fit and loosened as your child grows. This is the opposite of women's dirndl sizing (where we recommend the smaller size) because authentic Kindertracht is designed to be worn through a growth season, not for one occasion only.
One sizing system for kids' Trachten: The same German body-height size applies to our Kinderdirndl, kids' Trachten blouses, and matching apron sets. Measure once, order the complete outfit at the same size.
How to Measure Your Child

Take measurements over light clothing or undergarments. Use a soft tape measure and check that the tape sits level around the body. Stand the child upright against a wall for height. Re-measure shortly before ordering — children's measurements can change significantly within a few months.

  • Height: Measure from the top of the head to the floor with your child standing straight against a wall, shoes off. This is the primary size determinant.
  • Bust / Chest: Measure around the fullest part of the chest, with the tape level under the arms and across the shoulder blades at the back.
  • Waist: Measure around the natural waistline — typically just above the navel and the narrowest part of the torso.
  • Hip: Measure around the fullest part of the hips. Relevant for older children where hip development affects the dirndl skirt fit.

Choosing the Right Kindertracht Size
  • Primary rule: Use body height as your starting point. German Kindergrößen (children's sizes) are defined by height — a child 110 cm tall takes size 110, regardless of age.
  • If between heights: Order the larger size. The Mieder lacing adjusts; the skirt length will be appropriate to the child's height within the year.
  • Slim build: If your child's bust and waist measurements fall in a smaller size than their height, still order by height — the Mieder will lace tighter to compensate.
  • Sturdy build: If bust or waist measurements exceed the row for your child's height, order the next size up by height.
  • Above 164 cm: For older teens above 164 cm height, please use our women's dirndl collection — German women's size 32 typically fits teens between 160–170 cm tall.
