Boys' Trachten Shirt Size Chart — Body Measurements

All measurements are body measurements in centimetres. This chart applies to our complete boys' Trachten shirt range — traditional Pfoad, Bavarian linen shirts, and embroidered Trachtenhemd. German children's sizing is based on body height in centimetres (e.g. size 116 = a child 116 cm tall). If your child is between two sizes, read the fit note below before ordering.

Boys' Trachten shirt fit note: Children grow quickly. If your child is between two sizes, order the larger size — the shirt's generous Bavarian cut allows room to move and can be tucked or bloused to adjust length. This ensures the shirt remains wearable through a full growth season, not just a single occasion.
One sizing system for boys' Trachten: The same German body-height size applies to our boys' Trachten shirts, lederhosen, and matching braces. Measure once, order the complete outfit at the same size.

How to Measure Your Child

Take measurements over light undergarments. Use a soft tape measure and keep it level around the body. Stand the child upright against a wall for height. Re-measure shortly before ordering — children's measurements can change significantly within a few months.

  • Height: Measure from the top of the head to the floor with your child standing straight, shoes off. This is the primary size determinant.
  • Chest: Measure around the fullest part of the chest, tape level under the arms and across the shoulder blades.
  • Waist: Measure around the natural waistline — just above the navel and the narrowest part of the torso.
  • Collar: Measure around the base of the neck where the collar sits. Add 1 cm for comfort.
  • Sleeve Length: Measure from the centre back of the neck, across the shoulder, down to the wrist with the arm slightly bent.

Choosing the Right Trachtenhemd Size

  • Primary rule: Use body height as your starting point. German Kindergrößen are defined by height — a child 128 cm tall takes size 128, regardless of age.
  • If between heights: Order the larger size. The traditional cut has extra length and width that can be bloused over lederhosen braces.
  • Slim build: If chest and waist measurements fall in a smaller size than height, still order by height — the relaxed Bavarian cut accommodates slimmer frames.
  • Sturdy build: If chest measurements exceed the row for your child's height, order the next size up.
  • Above 170 cm: For older teens above 170 cm, please see our men's Trachten shirts — German men's size XS typically fits teens between 168–176 cm tall.
