Men's Trachten Vest & Jacket Size Chart — Body Measurements

Sizing for our authentic Bavarian Trachtenweste (Trachten vest) and Trachtenjanker (Trachten jacket). Both garments use the same German Konfektionsgröße sizing system — vests fit close to the body, jackets have sleeves and slightly more shoulder room. All measurements in centimetres unless noted.

Vest & jacket fit note: Measure your bare chest (over a thin shirt only) and look up your size below. If you are between two sizes, size down for the traditional slim Trachten cut — this is the opposite of women's dirndl sizing. The exception: if you plan to wear a Trachten vest underneath your Trachten jacket as a layered outfit, order the jacket one size larger than your vest.
One size system, two garments: If you wear our Trachten vest in German size 50, you wear our Trachten jacket in German size 50 — the same German number applies to both. Your shirt size also matches. See our Men's Trachten Shirt Size Chart to confirm.
How to Measure

Wear a thin shirt only. Stand naturally — don't puff your chest or suck in your stomach. Use a soft measuring tape and ask someone to help if possible.

  • Chest: Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, just under your armpits and across your shoulder blades. Keep level and snug — slide one finger underneath to check. This is your primary size number.
  • Waist: Measure at your natural waist — the narrowest point of your torso, typically about 2–3 cm above your navel. Don't pull tight. Used for vest waist fit and jacket button placement.
  • Body Height: Stand against a wall without shoes. Measure from crown to floor. Used to identify your fit category — Normalgröße (standard), Untersetzt (short), or Schlank (long/tall).

Chest: bare body measurement over a thin shirt. Chest ranges aligned to US jacket sizing (US 40 = 40" chest = German 50). Tolerance ±1 cm. Body height shows Normalgröße cut; men outside the range may need Untersetzt (short) or Schlank (tall) fit variants.

Jacket Sleeve, Back & Shoulder Dimensions

For Trachten jackets only — vests have no sleeves and run shorter at the back. Reference these when judging arm length and torso fit.

Sleeve: shoulder seam to cuff. Back length: base of collar to hem. Trachten jackets run ~5–8 cm shorter than regular suit jackets — they finish at the hip, not mid-thigh.

Fit Rules
  • Vest fit: Should close flat over a shirt with no horizontal pulling at the button line. Sits close to the body — should not gap at the armholes. Hem reaches the top of the trouser waistband.
  • Jacket fit: Shoulder seam sits exactly at your shoulder bone. Chest button closes without strain. You should be able to slide one finger inside the buttoned jacket comfortably.
  • Jacket sleeve: Ends at the base of your thumb when arms are relaxed. Shirt cuff should show ~1 cm beyond the jacket cuff.
  • Jacket vs Lederhosen size: Your jacket/vest size is chest-based; your Lederhosen size is waist-based. For average builds these match. For athletic or stockier builds they may differ by 2–4 sizes — always measure both separately.
  • Wool loden: May shrink ~2% on first dry clean — check care label before washing.
Quick Conversion Reference
  • German size = chest (inches) + 10. Example: 40" chest → German 50.
  • US chest size = German size − 10. Example: German 50 → US 40.
  • UK chest size = US chest size — UK and US use identical jacket numbers.
  • Italian / French / EU sizes match German Konfektionsgröße exactly for jackets and vests.
